TEEJ- THE FESTIVAL OF MONSOON

India is a beautiful country known for its colorful cultural festivals . The festivals celebrated with family and  friends is a great way to spend time with your loved ones and connect with your family' s culture and traditions .
Teej is one such hindu festival which is celebrated by hindu women in different states of India during monsoon season to welcome rains.
The festival of Teej  is dedicated to the union of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva and is most loved by Hindu women
Fast is observed by married and also unmarried girls .Married women fast and pray for their happy married life and pray for good  health and long life of their husband by offering prayers and rituals. This is mainly for married women but bride to be can also fast for their blissful future.
On this day married women are  dressed up with colorful dresses preferably red ( Symbol of Love) or green ( symbolises greenery). A day before this festival the women apply Mehendi ( Heena ) on their hands and wear colorful bangles.
Teej is celebrated to welcome the monsoon season with singing songs and dancing and processions. Married women receive gifts from her parents and also for her in laws such as sweets like Ghewar,  cosmetics , saree, bangles and also Henna tubes. These gifts symbolises the happiness and prosperity and a long happy married life of a women with her husband.
Teej festival is celebrated in different parts of the country but the most colorful and lively for me is the one celebrated in Jaipur, Rajasthan . The Teej procession is carried out for 2 days with women all dressed up like brides and are the part of this procession and festival preparations.
I miss so much about the Teej festival in Jaipur which is loaded with color and culture but the most favourite is the traditional sweet Ghewar.
