PUSHKAR- My Experience
Puskar- Temple , Camel Fair & Hotel
My today's destination is Puskar, India.
Puskar is a holy city of India located at Northern State of Rajasthan also called as Temple Town . Pushkar is famous for its Lord Brahma Temple and the Camel Fair which is held every year.
According to Hindu belief Lord Brahma is believed to be the Creator of this Universe. Puskar is the only city in India to have Brahma Temple on the banks of Lake Puskar with many ghats where pilgrims bath in the sacred lake. The temple is known as Jagatpita Brahma Mandir.
The distance from Jaipur to Pushkar is approximately 143 km and takes around 3 hrs by road.
Every year the city attracts many tourists from all over the world.
Puskar is famous for its annual Camel fair which starts on Kartik Purnima which is the Full moon according to the Hindu calendar (autumn month of October and November ) and last for 7 days. The fair is held to invite local camel cattle traders and attracts many foreign tourists. The camels are decorated beautifully to dance and to be traded. It's like a carnival with all the arrangements made to entertain the crowd with musicians, dancers, snake charmers and other activities. It is a very interesting and colorful event not to be missed.
To enjoy the Fair I suggest plan to be with an organised group and take assistance from your travel agent.
We had our booking at Hotel Pushkar Palace. At once when you look at the hotel you won't know why Pushkar Palace.
The best part is the amazing view from the room. I strongly suggest to book your rooms on the first floor to get an awesome view of lake and temples like mine .
I am not an expert to judge a hotel or give rankings but as per my personal experience Pushkar Palace is nice and worth staying. I was in love with my room specially in the evening with the lake view, Temples Lighted up with colorful lights and the long Palm trees and an amazing sunset . What more could I have asked for at that moment.
There are still few things which was not up to my expectations . The washrooms which are neat but not modern style. But in my opinion it was worth with all that awesome view and other amenities and services.
Next day left early morning for temple and be prepared to walk through the busy road. The shoe off situation at ghats might be a concern so prefer your most comfortable flip flops . The temple is beautifully made by marbles and stone slabs. It is prohibited to take pictures inside the temple so no option left but took few outside the temple .
Visiting Indian city without having a taste of its street food would have made my trip incomplete. So had it's special Jalebis, Malpua and spicy fritters. Though I missed on other foods but may be next time.
There's a bazaar close to temple and while walking back to the car parking got a chance of quick shopping. You can find some really beautifully crafted
Woodwork pieces . I bought some wooden art pieces, some really nice Indian cotton kurtas with bottoms. Some are beautifully embroidered and with good price but again bargaining works well and save money.
If you miss shopping you dnt have to worry. Just outside the hotel you can find shops selling artificial and silver jewelry. Being close to hotel and knowing you are a visitor from other place the price would be very high so must avoid if possible shopping here.
My Pushkar visit was worth and I had a great time. My most favorite was the sunset view with a cup of hot tea.
