Jaipur- Shopping for Indian Wedding
Wedding in India is indeed a fun and families consider this more like a huge project instead an event . Indian wedding is an expensive affair but is considered very important when it comes to culture and tradition.
In the year 2018 I got super excited when I got the news of my niece wedding back home India. The moment we NRIs get a chance to go back home we get so much energetic that we start with our everyday Mall shoppings to over stuff our luggage with gifts, gifts and yes gifts for our family members.
I took my flight from Toronto to Delhi and finally reached Delhi. From Delhi I travelled to Jaipur by road which is my most favorite road trip.
Reached Jaipur, The Pink City of Rajasthan took some rest and started on with my mission Shopping.
One of the oldest market in Jaipur
Johari Bazaar is the first spot when we think about shopping and street food
Today I will share my shopping experience in Jaipur.
To start with traditional dresses such as Lehenga Choli the designer or traditional it's completely upto to you and your budget.

Rajasthan sarees and suits are very famous and you will find numerous shops selling sarees or suits. The traditional Bandhej or Lehreeya Pattern is very common . I suggest you must have one such print dress . You can also buy the fabric and get it stitched as per your choice . Here I would like to mention that stitching charges are very high in other countries therefore I make sure I get all my dresses stitched or Alter when I am in India . Make sure you have extra space in your luggage to carry back and avoid paying extra for an over weight luggage . The reason being Indian wedding goes for three to four days of main ceremonies as pre wedding rituals so that ask for special outfits and some might be heavy in weight due to its work ( e.g embroidery , Gotta, fabric stones and gems).
Johari Bazaar is known for Jewelry shopping where you can get all types of designs made of Lakh and Kundan Jewelry.
For nice embroidered Rajasthani footwear( called as Juttis) you can see many shops and get something that matches with your outfit and comfortable.
I dnt forget to buy nice gifts for my friends . Some of the gift ideas are buying handicrafts items like mirror work handbags with colorful embroidery , some really colorful scarfs in Bhandej/ Lehereeya , marble or wood art piece ( most common Elephant and Camel ) or even Jewelry.
There are other shopping spots like Nehru Bazaar, Bapu Bazaar, Tripolia Bazaar and more. It all depends on what you are looking for and how convenient it is for you to reach that place.
The other option is shopping at Malls like Gaurav Towers and I am sure few more.
My shopping experience is always so much fun and I end up with bursting on my planned budget. It seems little awkward but do not hesitate to bargain or be with someone who knows the place well.
The wedding was fun ofcourse and yes I bought Saree for the big day wedding , Lehenga for Sangeet ceremony and Silk suit with Bhandej work and more for Mehendi and Reception with matching jewellery and I completely loved it.
You dnt need an occasion for shopping and a Window Shopping with your family and friends is a great idea.
